For years, Adam Gunton carried a painful phone call he couldn't bring himself to talk about. Drugs and alcohol became a way to keep that pain out of reach.
Adam joins Jay Hicks to share his experience of addiction, homelessness, and recovery, and how those experiences led him to found Recovered On Purpose. He talks about the role of faith, the honesty required in his own recovery, and the people whose contact reminded him he still mattered.
They discuss what changes when someone can tell their story without squeezing it into another person's expectations. Adam describes helping people in recovery share their experiences with others, while Jay explores authenticity, fear, and the pull toward a life of service. Humor has a place here too, alongside the difficult parts that made it necessary.
Content note: Discussion of addiction, suicide, and bereavement.
